Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transcribe a one hour long transcription?

Transcription industry standards dictate that 10 to 15 minutes of speech takes one hour to type.  Therefore, a 60 minute recording should take somewhere in the region of 4 to 6 hours to transcribe.  This is based on a good quality recording without any hindering factors.

 

What is 'Verbatim' transcription?

This is a full transcript of everything that is said in the recording including the common 'ems', 'ers', 'sort of', 'you know' etc.  These types of transcripts are often required for interviews by universities for qualitative analysis and by the legal profession.

 

What is 'Smart Verbatim' transcription?

This is an intermediate transcription, but omitting the 'ems', 'ers', 'sort of' and other meaningless utterances.

 

What is 'Intelligent Verbatim' transcription?

This type of transcription is commonly used for lectures, meetings, conferences, symposia and some interviews.  All housekeeping issues are omitted from the transcript and the 'ems' and 'ers', 'you knows', 'I mean' and 'sort of' utterances are left out.  In addition, abbreviations can be removed on request and replaced with formal terms, such as 'I've' is replaced with 'I have', and 'you're' is replaced with 'you are'.  Please note that this option will slow the transcription process down a little and in turn will affect our fee outcome.

 

Confidentiality

All material in relation to any projects undertaken will be treated in the strictest confidence.  FMTS will delete all hard and soft copy records on project completion. 

No information will be divulged to any third party.

I will not divulge any of the Confidential Information to any person or company who is not party to the Confidential Information without the prior written consent of the client unless required to do so by law.  If such disclosure is required by law, then I will promptly give notice of such disclosure to the client. 

No use will be made of the documentation, audio recordings or any other information other than for the purposes of the Services or otherwise as instructed in writing by the client.

I shall make no direct or indirect contact with the client's clients, suppliers or staff in respect of the Services, other than specifically authorised in writing by the client.

I shall comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

The obligation of confidentiality shall continue to apply without limit in time after the work has been carried out and/or termination of the contract.

I am happy to enter into a signed Confidentiality Agreement stating the above and am equally as happy to enter into an agreement drawn up by the client.
